What Happens If the Repair Does Not Hold

Every repair we carry out is covered: 1 year on replacement parts and 90 days on the labor. This page explains what each of those actually means, so you are not reading it for the first time when something goes wrong.

The two halves of a repair warranty

1 year

Replacement parts

A full 1-year warranty on replacement parts. If a part we fitted fails within that period, replacing it is our responsibility, not yours.

90 days

The work itself

A 90-day labor warranty on the repair itself. This covers the fitting, the adjustment and the diagnosis — our side of the job rather than the component.

Why the two terms are different

It is a question worth answering plainly, because a shorter labor term can read like a smaller promise. It is not. A part is a manufactured item that either works or does not, and it carries a term to match. Labor covers whether the work was done correctly — and a repair that was fitted wrong shows itself quickly, usually within days rather than months. The ninety-day window exists to cover that, and it is the industry norm for the same reason.

What neither term covers is a different fault. If we replace a dryer's heating element and the drum bearing fails four months later, that is a new repair on a different component, not a failure of the first one.

How this sits alongside the warranty you already have

Most appliances arrive with a manufacturer warranty, typically one year on the whole unit and longer on specific components — sealed systems and motors are often covered for five or ten years even when the general term has expired. If your appliance is still inside any of that, use it first. It is broader than ours and it costs you nothing. We will tell you when that is the case rather than quoting you for work the manufacturer owes you.

A repair does not void your manufacturer warranty

This worries people more than it should. Under the US Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a manufacturer cannot void your warranty merely because an independent business serviced the appliance. To refuse a claim it has to show the outside work actually caused the failure. The practical advice still stands — use the manufacturer warranty while you have it — but the fear of losing it by calling an independent technician is not well founded.

Extended warranties are a separate question

Third-party extended plans are a purchase decision rather than a repair one, and the maths rarely favours the buyer. We have written that out in full: are extended appliance warranties worth it?

What we promise before the warranty ever matters

  • A clear estimate before any work begins. No hidden fees, no surprise line items.
  • An honest recommendation when a repair is not worth doing — including telling you to replace the appliance.
  • A diagnosis before a quote, so you are paying for a known fault rather than a guess.

The last one is the reason the warranty is rarely called on. A repair that was correctly diagnosed tends not to come back. Our technician standards page covers what that diagnosis involves, and our repair-or-replace guide covers the cases where the honest answer is not to repair at all.

Warranty questions

Why is the parts warranty longer than the labor warranty?

They cover two different things. The part is a manufactured component and carries its own term; the labor warranty covers our work in fitting it. Most repair businesses separate the two for that reason, and ours runs 1 year on parts and 90 days on labor.

Does this replace my manufacturer warranty?

No. If your appliance is still inside the manufacturer warranty, that remains the first thing to use — it is usually broader and costs you nothing. Our warranty covers the repair we performed, which is a narrower thing and applies whether or not the appliance itself is still covered.

Does a repair void the manufacturer warranty?

Not by itself. Under US federal law a manufacturer cannot void your warranty simply because someone else serviced the appliance — it has to show that the outside work actually caused the failure it is refusing to cover. That said, if the appliance is still under manufacturer warranty, using it first is nearly always the cheaper route.

What if the same fault comes back?

Call us. If it is the repair we carried out, inside the applicable term, putting it right is on us. That is the point of the warranty.

Is the warranty in writing?

The terms on this page apply to every repair we perform. If you need them referenced against a specific job, call us with the details and we will confirm what applies to that visit.
