Speed Queen Appliance Repair
Speed Queen builds laundry to a commercial standard and sells the same machines for the home. Nothing else in a domestic laundry room is engineered this way, and it changes what goes wrong.
The machines use heavier bearings, simpler controls and mechanical transmissions where the volume brands use electronics. Fewer things fail, and when they do the fault is usually mechanical and identifiable rather than a board-level mystery.
We service both the home line and the commercial machines in laundromats and apartment buildings across Chicagoland.
The Speed Queen range we service
Top-load washers
Including the classic mechanical-control models. Drive belts, transmissions and lid switches are the recurring work.
washer repair ›Front-load washers
Door boot seal wear, drain pump blockages and bearing noise. Bearings last longer here than on domestic-grade machines, but they are not immune.
washer repair ›Dryers, gas and electric
No heat, long cycles and thermal fuse failures — and, as always, a blocked vent behind them.
dryer repair ›Stacked units
Common where space is tight. The stack itself is the main complication for access.
dryer repair ›Commercial and multi-housing machines
Coin and card-operated units in laundromats and apartment buildings, where downtime costs revenue directly.
commercial washer repair ›
What Speed Queen owners should know
Precision diagnosis of motors, belts, couplers, and transmission components.
Mechanical controls are a feature, and they are repairable
On the mechanically controlled models there is no board to fail. Faults land on belts, transmissions, switches and timers — parts that are identifiable, available and economical. This is why these machines stay in service far longer than average.
A dryer that turns but will not heat starts with the vent
The thermal fuse, element or thermostat is usually the failed part, but a blocked vent is usually the reason it failed. Replacing the fuse without clearing the vent guarantees a repeat visit.
Commercial machines fail differently because of duty cycle
A laundromat machine runs many times more cycles than a home unit. Bearings, seals and belts wear on a schedule rather than at random, and planned replacement is cheaper than emergency downtime.
Deciding whether a Speed Queen unit is still worth fixing? Our repair-or-replace guide names the one repair that ends each appliance — and on a built-in that line sits much further out.

Speed Queen repair — frequently asked questions
Are home and commercial Speed Queen machines the same?
They are built to the same standard, which is the point of the brand. The commercial units add coin or card mechanisms and are specified for far higher duty cycles.
Do you service laundromats and apartment buildings?
Yes. Downtime on a coin-operated machine costs money directly, so these calls are prioritised differently from home repairs.
My Speed Queen is 15 years old. Repair or replace?
Usually repair. These machines are built for a long service life and the parts are available and reasonable — which is not true of every laundry brand at that age.
